FUNNY T-SHIRT FRIDAY: Random Weird T-Shirts

Sometimes, I'm good at making t-shirts with a particular audience or occasion in mind. But other times, I get a weird phrase or image in my head and it seems funny to me, so I jot it down and make it. Over the years, I've discovered that I have an odd sense of humor, though. I'm never quite sure if anyone else will laugh at - or even understand - my strange designs. Here are a few that fall into that category.

No Posts for a Few Days

My internet connection is going to be bad for the next several days, so I won't be on here again until the 20th. That's what I get for living in the country and having a very limited service. Make-Believe Monday and How-To Tuesday are delayed - probably until Friday. I'll have to do one giant post: Make-Believe How-To Funny T-Shirt Friday!

SUNDAY PUN DAY: Funny Bigfoot Yeti T-Shirt

Bigfoot rarely makes an appearance, so it's kind of embarrassing when you tell him not to come to your party, yeti shows up anyway. And in this case, he arrived with a big grin on his face, bearing gifts of wine, flowers and a heart. Poor guy! I doubt he'll make an appearance again. His confidence has been 'squatched.

The one time he shows up, and he's not wanted.

SAVINGS SATURDAY: Amazon Promo Code: Facebook $5 Off $35 Order

I stumbled across this Amazon promo coupon the other day, when placing an order on Amazon. It was a nice little promo that essentially helped me get one book for free. I'm not a big fan of Facebook and I don't make too many Amazon wishlists, either, but I managed to do this in a couple minutes and will walk you through the steps here:

1. First, your order has to total $35 or more & you need a Facebook account. After you've decided what to order, make a new public wishlist and put a few items in it.

2. Next, go here.* Select your new wishlist, answer the question, uncheck the email offer and click "Share and Claim." You'll be told you need to connect Amazon with your Facebook account to get the offer. If you're like me, you'll hesitate to do that. I don't really want Facebook connected to Amazon - but you can disconnect after redeeming the promo.

3. After you've shared your wishlist on Facebook, go back to Amazon and place your order. The $5 will be deducted if your order qualifies.Check for other promo codes, too, on product pages and promo code sharing websites.

4. Now that you're done, if you'd like to disconnect Facebook from Amazon, go here.

That's it. $5 off a $35 order!

*This is a 2013 promo. It looks like it's been available in other years, though, so if this link no longer works, search around with terms like, "Amazon Facebook $5 promo [your year]."

FUNNY T-SHIRT FRIDAY: Zombie Humor Gift Ideas

It's Funny T-Shirt Friday! Here is some zombie humor from my HaHaHolidays store.

This is for the real zombie buff... who also likes zombies who are buff, because the zombie on this shirt is lifting weights made of brains:

Zombie College: A Mind is a Terrific Thing to Taste:

Here's a zombie professor version with the same phrase. He's holding up a brain and giving the thumbs up:
Some might kill zombies with fancy high-tech weapons, but it's more fun to kill them with axes and bats... old-school:
Sometimes, you've had too little sleep or too much to drink or you're not feeling well - and you need to make sure everyone around you knows you're not a zombie:

Zazzle is still having plenty of sales leading up to Christmas. Check for Zazzle promo codes here.  Also, I just placed an order and used this promo coupon, so I know it works right now: FREESHIPFORU . It gives you free shipping if your order is over $50!

HOW-TO TUESDAY: GIMP Tutorial Lesson 2: Text Color Gradients

Last week, I showed you how to do a basic drop shadow effect using the free graphic design software, GIMP. This week, I'm going to build on that same tutorial and show how to add some color and interest to the text using the gradient tool.

MAKE BELIEVE MONDAY: Inspiration for Writers of a Utopian Future

Last week, I wrote about dystopian / post-apocalyptic settings. This week, I'm going to write about the opposite: utopias. This is a much harder topic for me to discuss. I'm one of those people who's fascinated by old crumbling houses and rusted-out abandoned cars. I also like science-fiction more than fantasy. But I do have one manuscript I wrote - and it's my favorite manuscript, in fact - where my character lives in a utopia. It seems to be a utopia, anyway, but she soon discovers that it isn't. That's usually the case with these "perfect" places, where everything is supposedly harmonious and happy. Either there are dark secrets below the surface or some malicious outside force threatens the peace. Whatever you decide, I thought I'd brainstorm some utopian settings here and show you some inspirational pictures. (Remember: there's a lot more to building your utopia than setting, though. You'll need to decide everything from government to religion, philosophical belief, how your characters live day-to-day, etc).

HOW-TO TUESDAY: GIMP Tutorial Lesson 1: Making a Basic Text Shadow Effect

If you're looking for great, free graphic design software, try GIMP (the GNU Image Manipulation Program). I've been using it for a couple years and love it. Any new software can be confusing at first, though. Basic tutorials will help familiarize you with the tools offered. I'm planning on doing a series of simple tutorials here, aimed at the first-time user. I'm gearing them toward writers because so many self-published writers make their own book covers now, but I hope they'll be useful for anyone. If you still need help or want to learn more advanced functions - from much more expert users - there are plenty of communities out there. Here are a couple good ones: Gimptalk / Gimpusers . And the GimpForums.

MAKE-BELIEVE MONDAY: Inspiration for Writers of a Post-Apocalyptic Future

Whether the zombies have taken over or the flu virus has taken out a large portion of the population, when you write your story or novel set in a post-apocalyptic future dystopia or gothic past, it helps to have visual inspiration. I like to set stories in the future and have always had a fascination with crumbling buildings, rusting cars, vacant houses and stores, and old schoolhouses.

SAVINGS SATURDAY: Zazzle Coupon Discounts for Small-Business Saturday

Today is Small Business Saturday. And while I wouldn't call Zazzle "small," its shops are run by individual shopkeepers who are each running a small business within the site. On top of that, Zazzle has its percent-off coupons and promo codes going strong. Take a look at the super savings weekend deals here.

Zazzle is a unique place to shop because you'll find all the crazy, weird, individual things you can't find in a traditional store. You can customize most of those things with your own text, change background colors, move and resize designs, etc. And if you still can't find what you want, you can always start from scratch and make your own.  I made these easy templates with how-to instructions just for that purpose (when you find the product you want to design, scroll down to "About the Design," where I've written a step-by-step guide).

I run some shops there (here's my funny holiday shop), and I bought Christmas presents there last year and thought the quality was great. In fact, a relative told me on Thanksgiving that he still wears and gets comments on the beer design t-shirt I made just for him last year. I was very glad to hear that the shirt is holding up well, especially since he wears it to work, where he works hard brewing beer all day.

So, if you're looking for a special gift and can't find the exact right thing, consider Zazzle today.
